The 2024 public high school entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City will consist of three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language, with an increased focus on practical application questions, according to the Department of Education and Training.
“Students need to connect their studies with solving practical problems, avoiding rote learning and cramming,” Mr. Quốc advised.
Mr. Quốc stated that candidates are still allowed to register three preferences for public high schools without regional restrictions, but they should prioritize schools near their homes to avoid situations where they are admitted but cannot attend due to the distance.
Additionally, the city will stop admitting non-specialized classes at Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted and Trần Đại Nghĩa High School for the Gifted. This decision follows a circular from the Ministry of Education and Training in February, stating that from the 2024-2025 school year, specialized schools can only admit specialized classes.
From January to April 2024, the Department will collaborate with high schools to advise 9th-grade students and their parents about the exam, high school curricula, and how to set suitable preferences.
The 2023 public high school entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City took place in early June with nearly 96,000 candidates. Among them, approximately 77,300 were admitted (80%).
However, this year nearly 5,000 admitted students did not enroll. This situation occurred not only in suburban schools but even in top-tier schools, which also lacked dozens of students. For the first time, Ho Chi Minh City organized additional admissions, but nearly 2,000 spots remained unfilled.
